Petition for Educational Classes for the Prevention and Treatment of Drug Addiction
My name is William Swenson and I’m a former drug addict that has been clean since 1977. I propose we encourage Huron Area Technical Center to develop classes that will teach the following:
1) Dr. Roger Walsh's Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) ideas as described in the blog (attached) at http://orlandopsych.com/blog/lifestyle/ and in the TED talk at http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=h11u3vtcpaY. Addictions and other life style problems should be seen as spiritual deficiencies in most cases rather than as mental illness or psychological disease. God created man with a need for a connection to him and when this connection doesn't exist or is deficient through a lack of practice of spiritual principles then serious problems such as addiction and crime are the end result. The stronger the spiritual practice and connection to God the greater the success at overcoming addictions and lifestyle problems. Students would need to hear from the religious/spiritual leaders in the community as well as explore and discuss a variety of religious/spiritual options available.
2) The use of whole body vibration. See, for example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-yM3nn1O3Q (It should be noted that whole body vibration is used in the detoxification process as mentioned in the video and can be used to alleviate painful physical conditions that bring on abuse of painkilling drugs including heroin).
3) Vegetable growing in small plots and in small greenhouses, and the growing of spirulina in small aquaculture systems as a necessary part of achieving optimal health. See, for example, links below that support the health aspect of gardening and spirulina.

4) How to make tasty green vegetable drinks (or nutri-blasts as they're called) with the NutriBullet to get more raw vegetables into the body and brain for longer life and enhanced performance. See http://www.nutribullet.com/index.php?r=site/watchtheshow. I use orange juice instead of water when making these drinks. Fasting on green drinks should be taught. See Fat Sick & Nearly Dead, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD8e4Mg3NFU, for info on the benefits of juice fasting, and Fasting in Drug Addiction, at http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.iii/020127.ch36.htm for info on the benefits of fasting to overcome drug, alcohol and nicotine addiction.
5) How Alcohol and substance abuse effects health and well-being and the various treatment options including the use of Ibogaine in severe cases of addiction as mentioned in IBOGAINE IN THE NEWS, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syztZcpj69U.
Some ideas for the classes could be borrowed from the Wellness and Health Promotion associate degree program planned for 2014 at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, Wisconsin from Scott Anderson, Associate Dean, 2740 West Mason St., Green Bay, WI 54307, Office - (920) 498-5513, Cell - (920) 619-6016. The classes should have a strong natural health component. Natural health is becoming more and more popular as can be seen by the Dr. Oz television program.
It's my opinion that only strong community based educational programs will have any significant impact on drug abuse in Huron County. These classes will have to be open and honest to work. The breaking of destructive habit patterns and replacing them with new healthy patterns is hard work and requires a commitment to change your lifestyle even though this may be difficult.

The You Tube video, below, Hackschooling Makes Me Happy really influenced me. It makes total sense to teach students how to be healthy and happy. This should be a part of any drug and health education in the schools. Dr. Roger Walsh's Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes provides the necessary framework for such classes in my opinion.
