Thank you for your response Scott. I would definitely drop out of the Computer Support Specialist program I'm currently in and take this new Wellness and Health Promotion program you're planning if I could learn the following:
1) How to teach others Dr. Roger Walsh's Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) ideas as described in the blog at http://orlandopsych.com/blog/lifestyle/ and in the TED talk at http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=h11u3vtcpaY
2) How to use and teach others to use whole body vibration. See, for example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-yM3nn1O3Q (It should be noted that the Green Bay Packers use the Power Plate, http://www.powerplate.com/resources/htm/media/pr/us/2011-02-what-do-the-green-bay-packers-and-the-pittsburgh-steelers-have-in-common.htm).
3) How to grow vegetables on small plots and in small greenhouses, and grow spirulina in small aquaculture systems, as well as how to teach others to do so as a necessary part of achieving optimal health. See, for example, links below that support health aspect of gardening.

4) How to make tasty green vegetable drinks (or nutri-blasts as they're called) with the NutriBullet and teach others how to make them as part of teaching ways to get more raw vegetables into the body and brain for longer life and enhanced performance. See http://www.nutribullet.com/index.php?r=site/watchtheshow
5) General health psychology as adapted for the course.

Good Afternoon, William,
Thank you for your interest in the upcoming Wellness and Health Promotion Associate Degree program. I can give you an overall perspective of where we are with the program and some of the intentions regarding the potential audience for certain courses.
Initially, we will be offering the program on the Green Bay campus. There could be potential of expansion of the program or specific courses, but I'm envisioning that at least 3-5 years down the road as we need to initially get the program off the ground.
Overall, we have just completed the developing a curriculum (dacum) process. This process validated that we will need both a strong wellness coaching approach as well as a strong exercise science approach. The group also did discuss a nutritional component as well as the introduction of substance abuse issues as they relate to chronic disease management as critical courses for our wellness students to prepare them for their professional roles. In terms of the nutrition course related to Wellness, I'm certain we will talk about how nutrition affects the body and how to comprehensively coach a client into healthy eating habits. The actual process of growing vegetables or items such as Spirulina will fall outside of the scope of the program and outside what of what our graduates would be hired to do.
In terms of exercise science, I'm certain our instructors will develop curriculum that reflects many uses of various exercise equipment. We will need to make sure these practices and equipment items are based in solid exercise research and are in line with training certification organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine.
Thanks again for your interest and I look forward to the coming year to roll out more information as the program develops.

Hi William,
I am forwarding your message to Scott Anderson, Associate Dean of the Wellness & Health Promotion program. He can better explain the focus of the overall program. I can tell you the program will have some nutrition and fitness elements along with personal coaching. The program is being designed for those interested in going into the Wellness and Health Promotion field. The program has not yet started course development at this time.
You may also want to contact Val Dantoin, Sustainable Food and Agriculture Systems program instructor. She can inform you of how this new program is being developed.
Thank you,
Vicki Csida

Ms Csida:
Will the Wellness and Health Promotion class be coming to Marinette and will it have a strong natural health component? Any information you can send me on the design of this class will be greatly appreciated.
I noticed in the news that Wisconsin is revising its food stamp policy to prohibit clients from purchasing luxury meat items such as steak, lobster, shrimp, and snack items which are expensive and unhealthy. Social workers could send their clients to the Wellness class to learn ways to eat healthier as well as for information on how to break drug, alcohol, and nicotine addictions.
Possibly you could consider designing the Wellness class to include teaching students how to grow vegetables, and include a student Wellness center that utilizes whole body vibration as well as other exercise equipment. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-yM3nn1O3Q and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN6rUlwJeBs&feature=related for information on whole body vibration.
Recently I watched the You Tube videos below on growing the superfood called Spirulina and on the Nutribullet. I thought these would make nice projects for a Wellness class. I became interested in Spirulina after watching an episode of Doomsday Preppers where a prepper advocated Sprulina as a survival food with the ability to keep someone alive with only small amounts (I forget how many grams this minimal amount was) after a disaster that cut off food supplies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Preppers.
